Urgently looking for a Safeguarding Officer

URGENT: WE NEED A SAFEGUARDING OFFICER IN PLACE BY 30 OCTOBER 2026, OR THE CLUB CANNOT CONTINUE

Dear Parents and Carers,

Flames Netball is entirely run by volunteers, and it’s thanks to them that our players get to enjoy their netball every week. Many of our committee have been giving their time for several years, and the club can only continue if new people join them.

Right now, our most urgent need is for a parent or carer to step forward as our Club Safeguarding Officer. We must have someone in place by 30th October 2026.

Why this matters: England Netball requires every club to have a Club Safeguarding Officer. Without one, we cannot meet our safeguarding obligations or England Netball’s requirements, and the club cannot continue to run. Training, matches and sessions would all be at risk. You can see England Netball’s requirements for clubs here: https://englandnetball.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/EKC/pages/424149007/I+m+involved+in+running+a+Club

What the role involves: The Club Safeguarding Officer is the first point of contact for any safeguarding concerns in the club. Children and adults can come to you to raise concerns or make disclosures, and you will handle them calmly and sensitively in line with England Netball’s Reporting a Safeguarding Concern procedures. You will take appropriate action on any concerns or referrals, liaise with England Netball’s Lead Safeguarding Officer, and keep clear, confidential records.

What we’re looking for: Someone approachable, caring and a good listener, who is reliable, organised and able to keep things confidential. No previous experience needed (it’s helpful, but is not essential).

What you’ll get:

  • Full safeguarding training (online), paid for by the club
  • Your England Netball DBS certificate fees covered
  • Ongoing support from the committee

Time commitment: Initial training (three online courses, to be completed within 3 to 6 months of taking on the role), plus attendance at committee meetings 3 to 4 times per year.

Interested, or want an informal chat first? Please contact James Hurrell, Club Chair, at hello@flamesnetball.co.uk as soon as possible, and no later than 30th October 2026. More about the club is at https://flamesnetball.co.uk.

Please take a moment to consider whether you could help, and pass this on to any other parent or carer who might. The future of the club really does depend on this.Thank you for your continued support.

12th September 2025 – training

Unfortunately, due to unfinished work on the court floor at Church Stretton leisure centre, we are unable to hold our first training session of the season indoors, therefore we will be on the courts to the rear of the leisure centre. Fingers crossed for good weather!

Due to the shortening days, we will not be able to run our normal training timings, therefore exceptionally for this week only, training sessions will be as follows:

  • U11 (yrs 4-6) – 6-7pm, with Alice
  • U12 (yr 7), U14 (yrs 8-9), U16 (yrs 10-11) – 7-8pm, with Sophie/Catherine/Clare
